Salem police officer struck in hit-and-run; police seek driver


A Salem police officer was the victim of a hit-and-run on Pope Street Thursday night, police said.

The officer was conducting a criminal investigation around 8:30 p.m., when she was struck by a vehicle which fled the scene, according to a statement from Salem Police Chief Lucas J. Miller.

While the officer was conscious and alert, she was taken to Salem Hospital to be evaluated and treated, the statement said.

Pope Street has a high-rise apartment complex. The incident is under investigation, police said.

No further information was available late Thursday night.
