HINGHAM — For Duxbury, one of the state’s most successful girls’ hockey programs, back-to-back losses are rare occurrences. So when the Dragons fell twice in a row last week, a response was inevitable.
It turned out to be a big-time response against one of the state’s best.
With goals from Shae Martin and Addy Harrington and 16 saves from Brooklyn Metzler, the No. 7 Dragons shut out No. 3 Hingham, 2-0, Wednesday night at Pilgrim Arena for a crucial Patriot League win.
“It really just helps us get that momentum back,” Martin said. “Sometimes when you lose it, you can either keep losing it and go down or go up. We’re on the upward track right now.”
Martin laced in a power-play goal early in the second period to put the Dragons (8-3-1) ahead, getting a drop pass from freshman Abby Carter and rifling it far side from the right circle for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

“It’s definitely a little stressful, but honestly awesome,” Martin said of her expanded role in her junior season. “It’s great to see me, as a player, develop, and my points also show that.”
For a while, it was all the Dragons could muster against the stout Harborwomen (8-2-1), who clogged lanes all night before starting the third period with a flurry of scoring chances.
It stayed a one-goal game until Harrington raced down a bouncing puck and poked it past Hingham goalie Izzy McGarr with four minutes to play, doubling the lead and giving the senior captain 99 career points.

“To me, this is one of the best rivalries around,” Duxbury coach Dan Najarian said. “All the girls know each other. They’re friendly off the ice, but then battle on the ice. They’re all good kids and it’s really a pleasure to be a part of it.”
