Kyle Tucker reportedly set to join star-studded Dodgers on four-year, $240 million contract

Kyle Tucker has agreed to a $240 million, four-year contract with the Dodgers, bolstering the franchise’s chance for a third consecutive World Series championship.

A person familiar with the deal confirmed the move to the AP on condition of anonymity because the agreement was pending a physical.

Tucker’s $60 million average annual value would be the second highest in baseball history, not factoring deferrals, behind Shohei Ohtani’s $70 million in his 10-year deal with the Dodgers that runs through 2033. The lefthanded hitter turns 29 on Saturday.

Former Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman introduced as a member of the Cubs: ‘I’m a winning baseball player’

When healthy, Tucker is among the best all-around players in the majors. But he has played in just 214 regular-season games over the past two years. He batted .266 with 22 homers and 73 RBIs for the Cubs last season.

The Cubs acquired Tucker in a blockbuster trade with Houston in December 2024 that moved slugging prospect Cam Smith to the Astros.

Including Tucker, the Dodgers will have eight different players with contracts worth more than $100 million on their roster. That includes Ohtani (10 years, $700 million), Mookie Betts (12 years, $365 million), Yoshinobu Yamamoto (12 years, $325 million), Blake Snell (five years, $182 million), Freddie Freeman (six years, $162 million), Will Smith (10 years, $140 million) and Tyler Glasnow (five years, $136.5 million).

The Dodgers needed an upgrade in the outfield and the bullpen this offseason. They accomplished that by signing Tucker and former Mets closer Edwin Díaz (three years, $69 million) — two of the best players available at their positions.

With Tucker off the market, former Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette and former Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger are among the best remaining hitters available as free agents.
