MSPCA-Angell is investigating a case of animal cruelty after an extremely emaciated pit bull terrier mix dog was brought to its Boston animal hospital over the weekend, the agency said Wednesday.
Investigators are asking for the public to help identify the owner of the two-year-old dog now known as Dolly, who was found Saturday outdoors in Lexington, MSPCA-Angell said in a statement.
She received lifesaving treatment at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, where she remains.
“When this dog came in, she was unbelievably thin and too weak to stand up,” described Mike Keiley, vice president of the MSPCA-Angell’s Animal Protection Division.

Veterinarians from the medical center’s emergency department also found wounds on her feet and tail, MSPCA-Angell said.
Since arriving at MSPCA-Angell, Dolly also suffered several seizures, doctors believed to have been caused by low blood sugar, and gastrointestinal bleeding of unknown origin, the statement said.
Dolly is being treated in the intensive care unit, where she is expected to stay for at least one week until her symptoms subside and she can walk on her own, according to the statement.
MSPCA hopes that Dolly will eventually be adopted by a family, Keiley said in the statement.
“Staff treating Dolly say that she’s incredibly sweet, despite what she’s been through,” Keiley said.
MSPCA-Angell encouraged anyone with information on Dolly’s owner to contact MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement at (617) 522-6008 or (800) 628-5808 or online, a spokesperson for MSPCA-Angell said in the statement.
