Vanhersing Francisco, 19, was apprehended at his residence on Public Street on Wednesday, according to a statement from Providence police.
Three injured in Providence drive-by shooting, police say
Francisco was charged with three counts of felony assault, drive-by shooting, and possession of a firearm without a license, authorities said.
He was due to be arraigned on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Authorities also charged a 16-year-old girl with felony assault, officials said.
Police responded around 1:13 a.m. on New Year’s Day to the area of 37 Berkshire St. for a report of a shooting, authorities said earlier this month.
“Upon arrival, officers located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds,” spokesperson Anthony Vega wrote in an email at the time. “One victim sustained a graze wound to the head, a second victim was shot in the shoulder area and a third victim sustained a gunshot wound near the temple. All three victims were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where they were reported to be stable and alert.”
A preliminary investigation and video evidence indicated the incident was a drive-by shooting, according to Vega.
In a police report, authorities wrote investigators found a single bullet hole in the rear window of a Ford, and discovered additional shell casings in the street.
According to police, “there had been a large gathering at the residence prior to the shooting.”
“Numerous subjects on scene described the suspects arriving on scene in a possible dark colored Honda, before firing several shorts towards the residence and fleeing outbound on Berkshire Street towards Admiral Street,” police wrote.
Police said Wednesday the investigation remains active and “and additional arrests may be pending as detectives continue to pursue all investigative leads.”
